In the technical-scientific field, the purposes of monitoring can be different and divided into:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Analysis of the physical phenomena associated with the system in order to identify the laws that can describe them;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identification of causes that have determinate particular situations of the system and identify possible corrective actions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this second case, the diagnostic objective is typically functional or preparatory to maintenance interventions. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the railway sector, considering a bogie resting on the track, one of the objectives of the diagnostic is to monitor the distribution of the load exerted by the wheels on the rail.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This leads to identify conditions in which the distribution deviates from the design<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and\/or regulated values and therefore an intervention is required. At the same time, it means identifying the possible causes that generated the aforementioned conditions. Among these, for example, there may be a degradation of the stiffness of the suspensions and \/ or of the geometry of the frame.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to be able to study the physical phenomenon of degradation also with statistical methods so as to identify the laws and the parameters that influence it, the monitoring should be able to measure the parameters chosen with adequate <\/span><b>accuracy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>temporal frequency<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to describe the evolution and to identify in time a deterioration that urgently requires maintenance intervention.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The following histogram shows the results of a monitoring, performed on a certain number of two-bogie rolling stocks, of the imbalance of the related wheelsets.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-78515 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ivmtech.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/pillola-5-img-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1545\" height=\"359\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ivmtech.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/pillola-5-img-1.png 1545w, https:\/\/ivmtech.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/pillola-5-img-1-300x70.png 300w, https:\/\/ivmtech.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/pillola-5-img-1-768x178.png 768w, https:\/\/ivmtech.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/pillola-5-img-1-1536x357.png 1536w, https:\/\/ivmtech.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/pillola-5-img-1-500x116.png 500w, https:\/\/ivmtech.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/pillola-5-img-1-800x186.png 800w, https:\/\/ivmtech.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/pillola-5-img-1-1280x297.png 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1545px) 100vw, 1545px\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-78516 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ivmtech.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/pillola-5-img2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1543\" height=\"357\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ivmtech.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/pillola-5-img2.png 1543w, https:\/\/ivmtech.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/pillola-5-img2-300x69.png 300w, https:\/\/ivmtech.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/pillola-5-img2-768x178.png 768w, https:\/\/ivmtech.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/pillola-5-img2-1536x355.png 1536w, https:\/\/ivmtech.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/pillola-5-img2-500x116.png 500w, https:\/\/ivmtech.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/pillola-5-img2-800x185.png 800w, https:\/\/ivmtech.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/pillola-5-img2-1280x296.png 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1543px) 100vw, 1543px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All the examined bogies present at least one unbalanced wheelset of more than 5% and consequently present an imbalance of the diagonals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As shown with the <\/span><b><i>Bogie Playground<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, this condition is a sign of non-uniform stiffness of the primary suspensions or of twisted bogie. Both of these situations require maintenance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These measurements are accurate enough to detect the presence of the imbalance, but are not frequent enough to determine when these conditions have occurred. It\u2019s only known that these measurements were performed during the interval between two successive cyclical maintenance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Therefore, in order to determine the evolution of the degradation phenomenon, it is necessary to measure several times to understand when the phenomenon started and especially if it is related to some triggering event.
